Why I Aborted:
I would have been a mother, if I did not abort.
Before you judge me, hold on. Wait a minute!
If you were in my shoes, what would you have done?
Would you have kept the baby?
Knowing fully well your mum was going to kill you, if she found out you allowed a boy to touch you not to think of getting pregnant by a boy?!
The Disappearing Act
Do you remember this poem: “Oh where, oh where has my little dog been, oh where oh where has it been? With it…”
Well, that was me 2019 when I didn’t see my period for eight months. Scary, right?
Permit me to do a little bit of trauma dumping.
My First Period
I deleted this part; it was too much information.
The Answered Prayer
You can imagine my relief when one month, my period didn’t show up.
Wallahi, I was not bothered at all — until about 3 months later, when I started asking myself what the problem could be.
Then I remembered what every girl was told.
You know na: if you don’t see your period, you are pregnant.
Gbam! My life is over.
At that point, I was 3 months pregnant and I had started experiencing morning sickness. I had to start reading about pregnancy to keep up, because there was no one to talk to about it. I was vomiting uncontrollably, and I was experiencing bad heartburn, I read it was one of the multiple symptoms pregnant women faced.
Three months after, I still haven’t seen my period and it was becoming more serious. I was already showing for anyone that was closely looking. I was always in baggy clothes, so it wasn’t that obvious to people.
By then, I was already asking Google if my baby would be healthy. I mean I had not been going for antenatal.
I was also researching the best orphanage home near me where I can drop off my baby. Don’t judge me, I was a jobless SSS1 student!
What would you have done, if you were in my shoes?
At the beginning of my third trimester of pregnancy, I finally went to see a gynaecologist. It was exciting and I was a little bit scared. I was scared the doctor would be angry I was just coming.
It was exciting, because I could finally talk to someone about some of the symptoms I couldn’t find in the pregnancy guide. Also, by then, my baby was already kicking, and I was experiencing Braxton Hicks contraction (I had read about it).
The first doctor I saw was shocked by my list of symptoms ( yes, I had a list!), and referred me to another one.
I went to the other one and she ordered for an ultrasound scan, the first in my 7 months pregnancy.
I got to the scan room and after taking the reading, the radiologist asked when my last period was.
I mean I could see the shock on his face, probably from the fact that my baby was tiny or because I was not showing like he expected.
I got back to the doctor and the look on her face while she read the scan worried me more than anything.
Was she judging me? I mean I was a 14-year-old 7-month pregnant girl. I was already embarrassed, so she should stop making it worse.
After what seemed like forever, she finally opened her mouth to speak. The words that came out of her mouth were not what I expected.
“You have something called *******” she said.
Huh?!
My baby nko????
Where is my baby??!
There was no baby 😭
Although pregnancy is one of the reasons for amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), it is not the only reason!
I know you want to know why I experienced all those symptoms if I was not pregnant. Well…
I was vomiting, because I was drinking lime at the time. Why lime? Ask the 14-year-old me.
I had heartburn for the same reason.
I was ‘showing’ because I was bloated from too much gas from taking lime
I felt kicks and Braxton Hicks contraction because of the gas.
LOL, it wasn’t funny then though.
My point now goes to every young girl right now that is experiencing the same. I understand it is possible to not have someone to talk to about it and seeing a doctor might not be easy or at your tip. What I will tell you is to breathe in and out, and understand that that the only reason you would be pregnant is if you had had coitus. If not, I promise you are not pregnant.
In fact, nothing is wrong with you! You just have to wait till you have seen a doctor.
I really hope and pray no young girl is going through what I went through.
This is me breaking the generational trauma.
Yes, you would get pregnant if you engaged in coitus during puberty. If you didn’t, you are not pregnant then.
Although amenorrhea affects a small number of the women population, I don’t think it is still something to worry about. I mean worry about it enough to see a doctor, but honestly that is enough.
So far it is causing you no harm and it is not a terminal illness, you have nothing to worry about.
Plus, you will be saving up on sanitary pads and pain killers.
I wrote this since 2025!
I am only posting this because we are (you and I) on a self-development journey that includes us prioritizing our health.
I just know I can’t be first the lady with a false pregnancy-scare.
This is your sign to book an appointment with a gynecologist today!
In fact, just go to the hospital and do a check-up, because I know not everyone reading this is a female.
Do you want me to share my tips with you on how to be liked and properly taken care of in the hospital?
I promise you I have experience. Whether you agree or not, you will see the tips in my next post, by God’s grace.
Ps: The title was just a click bait. By now, you should know that!
I really there are no mistakes. I totally forgot today was Wednesday.
Byee guyss
Let me know what you think about it.
